Golden Eagle - AQUILA CHRYSAETOS

It belongs to the top predators. Golden Eagle is one of the 10 species of eagles in the world. Three other eagle species nest in Slovakia, namely Imperial Eagle Aquila heliaca, Lesser Spotted Eagle Aquila pomarina, Botted Eagle Hieraetus pennatus and other 2 species appear irregularly (Tawny Eagle Aquila rapax and Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga).
Golden Eagle is the biggest representative of the genus. Male weigh from 3 to 4,5 kg and the far bigger female from 3,5 to 6,5 kg. The width of wings is from 190 to 240 cm. The lenght of the body is 75 till 90 cm.
Cognition in nature
It is a robust darkbrown raptor with goldenyellow feather on the crown of the head. Tail is long, tail-feathers of adults are browngrey, of juvenils basally white. White color appears also at the wings of juvenils. Beak is blackgrey, hooked and very sharp. Strong legs are covered with feathers right to the fingers. The voice of juvenils sounds like "kiak - kiak," voice of adult eagles is "kli - kli - kli" and is markedly deeper.

Regardless its huge size Golden Eagle seems to be often smaller and it can happen that we mix it with our most common raptor, Common Buzzard. In reality the buzzard has half of the size of an eagle.
